DAEL Power helps during major blackout after accident with Apache-helicopter

All houses and businesses in Culemborg have their power back after a major power blackout on Monday evening. The malfunction was caused by an Apache-helicopter flying low during an exercise. About 24.000 households in and around the city of Culemborg therefore spend a full evening without electricity. DAEL Power helped the affected city and used aggregates to power the mobile transmission masts.

Monday evening, an Apache-helicopter flew into a high-voltage cable during an exercise with a power failure as a result, which also caused the mobile network in and around Culemborg to quickly become overloaded. So, aggregates were charged at our office,  after which they were quickly loaded on a truck. The aggregates were used to keep KPN, Vodafone and T-Mobile mobile transmission masts 'up and running'.

With the help of DAEL Power, the failure of the mobile network was largely captured. Around one o'clock that night the electricity supply in the affected area was fully restored. Our colleagues from DAEL Power and partner HNL could return home at midnight.
